Article of the Month - "Continuing Sexual Education - BLISS" Continuing Sexual Education for Adults By In their questions and inquiries, people often ask about sex therapy or counseling. It has always been my view that so-called sexual problems are usually the result of a lack of knowledge, rather than psychological conflicts. With what most people are taught/not taught about sexuality and sensuality through peers, their anxieties and difficulties are absolutely reasonable and understandable. B.L.I.S.S. (Bringing Love Into Sensuality and Sexuality) is the vehicle that Doctor G and his loving partner, Shama, use to help people realize their full potential as lovable and capable lovers. It is our goal to help people make their sensuality and sexuality a joyful expression of their love and caring for another human being. We are available as a team or individually, in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area or at our beautiful new facility in Hawaii. We work with couples and selected singles to create a unique and individual program that teaches them the tools for having a fulfilling and satisfying sexual/sensual life based on heart-centered intimacy. Every month, I choose one question or subject from the many letters that I receive. Question: Dear Dr. G, I am wondering if sexual intercourse relieves stress in males and females? As a male I always feel warm and positive after a good sex session with my wife. She does not share my view on the subject, but I remember reading something in the past that women tend to have a glow about them if they have sex on a regular basis (I think it was two to three times a week.) What are your thoughts on this matter? Thank you kindly Answer: Thank you for your very interesting question. It is my experience that often men and women respond to sexual intercourse and the physicality of sex in very different ways. Through the challenges of life and other stresses, we can become very contracted in our day to day experience. Sexuality can be a wonderful way to relax, release and feel our true nature once again. For a man, the chemical and neurological effects of an ejaculatory orgasm from intercourse can be very pleasurable and relaxing, not dissimilar to the feeling from eating chocolate. Men tend to have shorter sexual response cycles and can reach orgasm and those feelings much faster than most women. For women to experience the healing and relaxing that great sex can bring, they must find a way to move beyond the limiting programming that society has imposed on our sexuality. So that rather than a duty or another "thing to do" after a long day, sexuality can be a wonderful playground to relax, have fun and let go in loving intimacy. Women not only generally require more physical stimulation but also require more emotional satisfaction before they can have that regular glow about them. These are principles that we teach (B.L.I.S.S.) in working with people to develop a sexual relationship that is an expression of their love and caring for another human being. We also offer video tapes that deal with these issues. Specifically, I would recommend The Lover's Guide: Advanced Sexual Techniques, David Deida's Spirit - Sex- Love, The Lover's Guide to Sexual Ecstasy, or Ancient Secrets of Sexual Ecstasy. Spirit - Sex - Love Video (2001, Plexus) by As one of my teachers reminded me long ago, there is very little new thought, only improvements in the way that ideas are presented. In the case of David Deida's video, Spirit - Sex - Love, I can recognize clear influences in his material from other disciplines and teachers. Yet it is his comfortable, down to earth style and confident flair in presenting the material that greatly impressed me. In addition, his clarity and focus which brings his audience to find their own truth makes his teachings totally unique and powerful. In this lively, fast-paced video, Deida focuses on universal relationship issues. He presents an enlightened model of conscious and unconditional love. It is a delight to see how this model plays out - we see men who have more command of their lives with more expression of their hearts. He shows us powerful and creative women being totally loved and supported by strong, yet sensitive men. It is a model where EVERYONE wins. Just as in the recent popular movie, "What Women Want," Deida gives us very real experiences of the things he believes women want from men. Specifically, he shows us that women really do appear to want a man who will help them have exquisite emotional and physical experiences where they will feel totally open and closer to god or spirit as they know it, once they know it is available. In his presentation, Deida is totally brilliant. His appearance is pleasing and his gestures and body language are highly effective. Deida's warmth and genuineness come through in the video. He appears to be a true consciousness warrior. Spirit - Sex - Love is crisply edited so as to really engage the audience in the presentation of the material. While there are periods in which Deida is lecturing, either to the audience or by himself directly to the camera, the interspersing of the interactions between him and the live audience, allows viewers to have an experience of what Deida is talking about. Instead of the camera just sitting on a tripod with the talking heads presenting their views, the scenes frequently change with interesting camera angles and a "real" TV feel. I wholeheartedly recommend this video to anyone interested in the subjects of sex, love and relationship.
